About

Sharon Jones
Director | BA (Hons) Health & Social Care
Firstly, I want to say thank you for taking the time to read the information on this site. I hope it is easy to understand, as I have purposely avoided using jargon and tried to keep things clear, simple and pleasing to the eye. Although my image might not be as pleasing as some others on here, I have provided you with one, as it's important to me that you can see who is behind this service.
I set up Home From Home Care Dorset as, having worked in the care sector for 20 years, my heartfelt feeling has always been that I can make a difference to the lives of people who are lonely, and that this is something that has not solely been addressed by traditional care services, due to time restrictions and strict boundaries of which I respect and understand. However that's not for me and not how my service works.
The experience that most touched me in this regard relates to a very dear lady called Rose, who once said to me 'I feel like a baby needing care, what I miss is having a natter and seeing people, I'm lonely !
Her personal care needs were not her priority - what she wanted and needed was company and someone to laugh with. Rose lost her self worth and sense of belonging. The reason I know this is because Rose was my neighbour, and she had no family, so our world's became intertwined in a way I hadn't anticipated they would.
I chose to look after her. It was not easy, as I had my own commitments. It is for this reason that I have a very good insight into both the challenges that face busy families and loved ones when its comes to support and care, as well as the upset and turmoil that older people experience when it's suggested they cannot remain in their own home.
Rose's words will stay with me forever; but Rose was not a special case. This situation could face any person whose life is presumed over from the age of 65 - particularly when they are on their own, or face loneliness due to the onset of illness for themselves or a partner, or their social network has diminished as the years have advanced.
So here I am, providing a service that offers more than care, but a personal touch, friendship and companionship. One thing I know that makes a big difference to a person's well-being is seeing smiles and, as Rose said, having a natter and having fun. I want to see and promote happiness at all stages of life - one thing we do know is that life is too short, and that life should truly be for living.
Over the years society has changed, and although in many ways we are more connected than ever, the simple day to day interactions like a friendly 'hello' when you get on the bus, are becoming harder to come by.
Many would call me old fashioned, but I believe simple human interaction makes a huge difference. It truly breaks my heart to think of a lonely person, just wishing, like Rose, to have company and see a smile, but then to go home and sit alone.
But enough about me and my feelings!
My expectations are that my team will take time to build relationships and become genuine friends and companions, whilst upholding professional boundaries and safeguards as health and social care professionals should. But I give a promise that the people we work with will retain their dignity, self worth and identity and continue to enjoy life, as we would all wish for.
Care comes from the heart, it's not just a job. I specialise in hand picking who I want on my team, I visit and interview people in their own homes, and I have high standards and strong morals.
This service is designed to be bespoke and will be kept to a small local area, covering just the local area surrounding Portland in Dorset around a 5 mile radius. I have chosen to take on a minimal amount of clients to ensure the team are able to meet the goals I have set out in this statement and that clients receive a consistent service from a familiar face.
